Celt Check!: News

Celt Check! wows 'em at Radcliffe Place

Rita Townley, one of Celt Check's dearest friends, who also happens to be a fan, is the Activities Director at the Radcliffe Place Retirement Community in Kent. She asked us to come over and entertain for their St. Patrick's Day Open House festivities, and we gladly accepted. We played to a capacity crowd for 2 hours keeping them well entertained and enthralled. The highlight of the day was when Rick (Fiddler) went off into one of his "Lost Fiddler" routines to kill some time. The Audience was thoroughly captivated by his rendition of "Fiddler On the Roof", played with his violin on top of his head.

Celt Check! Summer - September 6, 2010

We started on July 31 at the Seattle Scottish Highland Games, then went through August with the Midsummer Renaissance Fair and ended with a performance at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe...WHEW!!
It was a hectic summer and we hope that you all got to participate in at least one of the venues that we were performing at.

We had a good time at the Highland Games, but then we always do. We got to hang out with some of our favorite local bands, BOWI and Jug-of-Punch. I got to sit in and play Bodhran with one of my all time favorite groups, Golden Bough. So, all in all, it was a great time.

The Renaissance Fair was crazy, but that was due more to the weather than anything else. The first weekend was cloudy and cool, the second weekend was broiling hot (114 degrees on Saturday), then the third weekend was perfect. Celt Check participated in the Pub Sing on Saturday of the last weekend, as well as filling in on drums with Heavy Hammer, and we had a great time.

The Evergreen State Fair show went really well. We had a huge audience. We were surprised by how many people wanted to hear us. We even sold a CD to guy who doesn't even own a CD player! I have posted the photos in the Gallery for all to see.

We will take a wee break for the winter and work on our upcoming new CD. Stay in touch and we'll see you all soon.

All's Faire Washed Out - June 29, 2010

Celt Check! performed at the 2nd annual All's Faire event on June 19-20.
Even though the event, which is an all genre fair, had twice as many people as last year, the rainy weather kept a lot of people away. That coupled with the fact that the Fremont Street Fair was happening on the same weekend, as well as the SCA's Honey War, and you can understand why attendance wasn't better.
Celt Check! had fun, although we would have liked larger audiences at our performances during the day. However, we were a smash hit at the after hours adults only party on Saturday night.
We're hoping that there won't be any event conflicts next year, and that the weather gods shine on us.

Celt Check! a hit at Finaghty's - March 18, 2010

A great time was had by all on St. Patrick's Day at Finaghty's Irish Pub!
It was a hectic four one hour sets from 8 to midnight that just seemed to fly by.
Some of our fans showed up to support us and the Pub regulars really seemed to enjoy the show. We had some of them dancing, not easy to do in the limited room there was.
Many requests were made, and fulfilled as Celt Check! performed many Irish favorites.
Our favorites were "The Quiet Man Set". We found four of the songs featured in the movie "The Quiet Man" and performed them in their entirety in the order that they appear in the movie. You can view photos from this gig in the photo gallery.

Winter Hiatus - October 26, 2009

Well, looks like Celt Check! will be going into hibernation for the winter, but this will give us the time to work on our next CD.
So by the time Spring comes around we should be able to offer all you fans a brand new album.

Seattle Highland Games 2009 - July 28, 2009

HOT!
We were hot, the weather was hot, everything was hot.
Celt Check had a very full schedule of sets this past weekend at the Seattle Scottish Highland Games in Enumclaw. Added to the busy schedule, the weather decided to grace us with an abundance of sunshine, which made the stage a hot and sweaty place to be.
Fortunately there was lots of lemonade and other cool, refreshing beverages to keep us going between sets.
Everyone had a great time and we're looking forward to performing at the Washington Renaissance & Fantasy Fair this next weekend, and the two following weekends.
Hope to see you all there.

Celt Check! Wins - June 21, 2009

We performed at the new All's Faire in Randle the weekend of June 20th.
When it was all over, Celt Check! had won the People's Choice Award for best entertainer for the weekend.
One comment that was made at the end of the Saturday night party was; "You guys are like the energizer bunny of Celtic music!"

Just wanted to let everyone know about a couple of things that are coming up this year.
There is a new Fair starting the weekend of June 20th this year at the Dragon Sphere Rec Park in Randle, WA. Celt Check! will be performing all weekend. It should be a lot of fun.
Also, the Washington Renaissance & Fantasy Faire will be happening this year at the Maris Farms in Buckley, WA. Celt Check! will also be appearing there for all 3 weekends in August.

Regimental re-do - September 11, 2008

We are in the process of re-recording our Regimental CD due to some technical imperfections in the original.
We will be adding 4 more songs to it as well as improving on some of the current songs.
More info as it breaks.

No Ren Fair this year - July 16, 2008

Due to problems with the site the Washington Renaissance and Fantasy Fair will either be delayed or canceled.
As a result, Celt Check will not be performing at the Fair this year.
We sincerely hope that Ron can get the problems ironed out and open on time next year when we hope to be performing again.

Celt Check! Regimental! CD now available. - February 7, 2008

Anyone who would like to purchase our Regimental! CD, but won't be able to be at any of our upcoming performances, may simply contact Gareth to setup the purchase either by phone or via e-mail.

Celt Check! gets new member - January 4, 2008

We are very proud to announce that we will be joined by Gwen Beaudry.
She plays Bodhran, whistle and sings backup, as well as solo, vocals.
Celt Check! feels that this addition to our group will help us to expand our repertoire, and it will give the audience something better to look at than me, Lyle or Fiddler.
